Tom Gede

Tom Gede is a principal in Morgan Lewis Consulting LLC and of counsel at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, serving clients in complex governmental matters in litigation, administrative and regulatory proceedings. He has a national reputation and distinguished background in federal Indian law. From 2009 to 2013, Tom served as a Commissioner on the federal Indian Law and Order Commission, examining criminal justice issues in Indian country and Alaska.
A former senior deputy in the California Attorney General’s office, Tom was amicus coordinator and Supreme Court counsel, and argued cases in the US Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, and numerous state and federal appellate courts. As legal and policy advisor, Tom worked on key environmental, energy, antitrust and privacy and security issues. Tom also served as executive director of the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG), coordinating activities on key legal and policy issues for the attorneys general of 18 western states and territories.
For over thirty years, Tom has been a regular speaker on issues affecting the justice system, including public safety in Indian country and multiple national security issues, and served as a co-chair of California’s Justice & Technology Conference. He is a 1970 graduate of Stanford University, and received his law degree in 1981 from the University of California – Hastings College of the Law, where he also serves as chair of the board of directors of the College.
