Sylvia Kingsmill, BA, LLB, is a National Partner in Deloitte’s Enterprise Risk Services practice, and the firm’s Data Protection and Privacy Leader. She has over 15 years’ experience in providing strategic, risk-based privacy and compliance advisory services, serving a diverse global client base. Her specialty is in advising executive teams on the development and implementation of data-driven digital strategies to support major IT and business transformations, alignment with privacy requirements, including privacy governance. Sylvia assists clients with operationalizing consumer protection laws and transforming existing compliance and privacy programs to align with evolving regulatory expectations, often as a result of internal audit or regulatory findings.
Sylvia recently developed the Privacy by Design Certification Program with Ryerson’s Big Data and Privacy Institute to help clients launch new products and services through privacy enhancing technologies and expand their digital footprint.
Prior to joining Deloitte, Sylvia was legal counsel for a boutique privacy consulting firm, former Chief of Staff to the Privacy Commissioner/Ontario, and interim Chief Privacy Officer for a non-for-profit with global operations. Sylvia is a licensed lawyer, specializing in business and privacy Business Law, and is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
