Shawn Slack
Director of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, City of Mississauga
Shawn Slack is the Director of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer for the City of Mississauga, the 6th largest City in Canada.
Shawn has played a significant role in providing strategic direction at the City of Mississauga with over 20 years in leadership roles as the Director of Customer Service where he implemented the first Customer Service Strategy for the City, was the Director of Business Services for the Corporate Services Department overseeing Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology and Customer Service and then shifted gears to become the City’s first Chief Information Officer where he implemented the City’s first IT Master Plan and most recently the Smart City Master Plan, endorsed by Council in the spring of 2019.
Shawn has implemented several policies for the City including Open Data, Acceptable Use of Technology, Bring Your Own Device and the Accessible Customer Service policy. He is currently leading the Digital Transformation of city services to cloud delivery and agile application development as well as the transformation of the City’s enterprise resource planning technologies including SAP and many other technology initiatives that are transforming how City services are delivered. Shawn is also very active with public safety working on the Public Safety Broadband Network initiative with an objective to implement a public safety cellular network across Canada and he is also a trained Incident Commander for emergency management for the City.
