VP & Chief Privacy Officer, Merck Global Privacy Office
Scott is responsible for Merck’s Global Privacy Program worldwide, including strategy, policy, governance, and operations – reporting to the company’s Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer as part of the Global Ethics & Compliance Organization.
In this role, he is a member of Merck’s Corporate Compliance Committee and chairs the Privacy & Data Protection Governance Board. Scott and his team work with business groups, regions and corporate functions to assure the implementation of the company’s values, ethical standards, policies, and programs — and to prioritize and integrate accountability, social responsibility and compliance into product and services development and delivery across the company.
As Chief Privacy Officer, he serves as Merck’s global privacy representative with governments, external policy makers, NGOs and customers in the area of Privacy & Data Protection. Scott is actively involved in global initiatives to advance stronger protections for fundamental rights and serves as Chairman of the Board for The Information Accountability Foundation, a non-profit global think-tank for Privacy. Scott has also served in previous Board-level roles in the field of Privacy, including past Chairman of the Board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and Board member for the Council of Better Business Bureaus (BBB).
Prior to joining Merck five years ago, Scott served as Vice President & CPO for Hewlett-Packard Company where he worked for 26 years.
