Kharis O’Connell is a Principal of Design Futures at Amazon, working in the Spatial Computing, Computer Vision and Machine Learning space. Prior to that, he led a product design group at Google, working on future hardware and software devices for Augmented Reality and Spatial Computing.
He has spent the last 13 years focusing on designing for emerging technologies. Before Google, he was VP of Product and Design at AR pioneers such as Meta, published a book for O’Reilly Media – ‘Designing for Mixed Reality’ and has worked at other companies including Nokia, Samsung, Vodafone, Archiact, Global Mechanic as well as advising startups focusing on new technologies. Kharis has also been a prominent speaker at many conferences that focus on the relationship between design and technology. His personal interests are alternative energy and resource use, and the design of the built environment.
