Ian Bailey – 2019
Assistant Deputy Minister and Ministry CIO, Ministry of Attorney General and Public Safety Sector, Province of BC
Ian Bailey was appointed as the Assistant Deputy Minister and Ministry Chief Information Officer for the Information Systems Branch on December 11, 2017. His current responsibilities include executive oversight of the Information System Branch.
The Ministry Chief Information Officer (MCIO) leads strategy, policy and standards for information technology, IT security and the management of the IM/IT investment portfolio for the Ministries of Attorney General and Public Safety and Solicitor General. The MCIO is responsible for the justice and public safety sector’s vision and mandate for business transformation and technology.
As the branch Assistant Deputy Minister, Ian provides strategic IM/IT leadership for the sector and leads a team of technology professionals who provide IM/IT support to program areas and stakeholders. The team includes security and privacy specialists, enterprise architects, system engineers, database analysts and administrators, client portfolio specialists, strategic planners, and application support technicians.
Prior to moving into this role with the branch, Ian worked for the Ministry of Citizens’ Services, where he was the Assistant Deputy Minister of Technology Solutions since his November 2013 appointment. Ian joined the BC Public Service in 1991 and is seen as a thought leader in developing the Pan-Canadian Identity Management Strategy and the BC Services Card solution for the province. Ian has also been active in the work to support continuity of government operations in the event of a damaging earthquake.
With 36 years of experience in IM/IT, Ian’s professional experience also includes ten years developing software in the oil and gas industry, healthcare, and for the Department of National Defense.
