Dwight Nelson
Former President & CEO at Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region; Former CEO at Headwaters Health Authority
Dwight Nelson was appointed President & COO of Carewest in August 2015. Previously he was President & CEO of the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region for 12 years, and Chief Executive Officer of the Headwaters Health Authority in Alberta for 7 years.
Nelson chaired the Western Canadian CEO Health Forum from 2010 through 2012. He has served on the boards of Accreditation Canada, the Association of Canadian Academic Health Organizations (ACAHO), and the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) for both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Nelson is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Health Benefits Trust of Alberta (HBTA). He also served on the boards of the University of Regina, the Health Insurance Reciprocal of Canada and the Regina Symphony Orchestra.
Nelson was awarded the 2012 National Mentorship Award from the Canadian College of Health Leaders. He is the 2008 recipient of the ACHE Regent’s Award for Senior Health Leadership in Canada. In 2006, Nelson was named Canada’s top health care collaborator by Canadian Healthcare Manager Magazine.
Nelson is a graduate of the University of Calgary (Bachelor of Arts) who also holds the professional designations of Chartered Accountant (CPA/CA) and Certified Health Executive (CHE). He lives with his wife Christine in Calgary.
