David Hughes

David Hughes is a privacy lawyer who has worked both as a civil litigator in private practice and in-house as Senior Legal Counsel, Director of Privacy and Corporate Secretary for the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. While at BCLC, David oversaw the creation and growth of the privacy program and led a team of staff with responsibility for privacy, records management and freedom of information. In February 2013, he left BCLC to start the firm of Forward Law LLP. David holds a JD from the University of Toronto, where he was the recipient of a number of academic awards, as well as a BA, MA and a Certificate in Executive Business Leadership from the University of British Columbia. He has presented at numerous privacy conferences across Canada on such topics as privacy breaches, privacy training, PIAs and privacy accountability. He currently co-teaches a course on Information and Privacy Law at Thompson Rivers University, with David Loukidelis QC.
