David Adams

President, Global Automakers of Canada

Born and raised in Toronto, David Adams was appointed President of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC) in March 2005.   In May 2013 the AIAMC changed its name to the Global Automakers of Canada to reflect the members’ growth and relevance in the Canadian automotive industry.

The GAC is the national industry association representing the interests of 14 global automakers engaged in the manufacture, importation, distribution and servicing of light duty vehicles in Canada.  The GAC advocates for sound public policy to support a competitive and sustainable automotive market in Canada. Our members are committed to meeting the mobility needs of Canadians by providing greater consumer choice, offering leading edge safety and environmental technologies and eliminating unnecessary regulatory and trade barriers.

Prior to his appointment as president of the AIAMC, he worked for 18 years in increasingly responsible positions with the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association (CVMA). His primary responsibilities within the CVMA were in the areas of trade, economics, taxation, social welfare and consumer issues. He left the CVMA as Vice President, Policy.

David has a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in economics and psychology, from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.

David has been involved in the creation of two alternative dispute resolution programs within the automotive industry – the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP) for which he is the immediate past Chair of the Board, and the National Automobile Dealer Arbitration Program (NADAP).

David also serves as a director of the Automotive Business School of Canada, at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario.

Additionally, David is a regular columnist in Canadian Auto Dealer and past contributor to Canadian Autoworld, both monthly trade magazines for the Canadian automotive industry.

David is an avid cyclist and resides in Toronto with his wife Julie.
