Clyde Wells

Counsel, Cox & Palmer; Former Premier of Newfoundland & Labrador

Clyde has had an extensive legal and political career. A graduate of Dalhousie Law School, Clyde built a thriving legal practice before serving as the fifth Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from 1989-1996.

Upon his departure from politics, Clyde joined one of his firm’s predecessor firms and practiced with them for two and a half years prior to his appointment as a justice of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador (Court of Appeal).  He was appointed Chief Justice of the province in 1999, a position he held for 10 years until he chose to step down. Clyde remained as a supernumerary justice of the appellate court until his full retirement from the bench in November 2012.

In his role as Counsel, Clyde’s advice is a tremendous asset, and further enhances his accomplished team, practice, and client service.  He was appointed Chair of the Cox & Palmer Board in January 2014.
