Dr. Brenda McPhail is a Senior Technology and Policy Advisor at the Information and Privacy Commission of Ontario where her primary focus is on children’s privacy and privacy in the context of next-generation law enforcement. She came to the role from McMaster University, where she led the development of an executive master’s degree for thought leaders in digital policy. As the former Director of the Privacy, Technology and Surveillance Program at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, her work has supported Supreme Court litigation, legislative reform, and public education on privacy rights and risks. She has appeared as an expert witness before Parliamentary and Senate committees regarding privacy law, protecting privacy rights in the face of emerging technology, and national security. Brenda received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Information.
