Welcome Address

1:10-1:40pm PST

Session #1 - Implementing a Risk Based Approach to Security

It sounds easy, doesn’t it? Change your traditional security program over to a risk-based approach. But what does that really look like? Join Tim McCreight, former acting Chief Security Officer for The City of Calgary as he describes what a risk-based security program looks like, and the journey his team continues to take.

1:40-2:25pm PST

Session #2 – Panel Discussion: Ransomware – Are You Ready to Respond?

Local governments have been the targets of ransomware attacks for many years now. We see the devastation caused by these attacks on cities and public bodies. This panel will provide insights into current practices and also discuss what gaps and areas we should focus on going forward.

2:25-2:30pm PST

Afternoon Break - Prize Draw Time

2:30-3:10pm PST

Session #3 – A Vendor’s Perspective: Incident Response Retainers and Supply Chain

When do you make the call to burn your incident response retainer? When do you know when an incident constitutes a breach? What is this going to do to our cyber insurance premiums?

2020 was the second consecutive year that 100% of Canadian organizations we surveyed reported a cyber security incident over the previous year, and increasingly, organizations concerned about cyber security threats are looking towards adopting a posture of assumed compromise and shift their objectives from secure to resilient.

In this interactive session, we will break down the Incident Response Life Cycle, discuss a few common and dangerous threat vectors, and empower you with some tools and resources to determine and improve your own security incident response readiness.

3:10-3:55pm PST

Session #4 – Panel Discussion: The Future of Work

2020 showed that local governments were able to pivot from a primarily on-site workforce to a remote workforce. We proved that we could support our colleagues to continue delivering services to the public from their homes. It has been over a year now and this panel will discuss the lessons learned and how they will impact the future of work by securing a remote workforce, building culture remotely, and changes to how and where city employees work.
