As the Director of Product for Research Metrics at Elsevier, Polly Allen oversees the development of technologies that store, mine and attempt to understand the world’s corpus of academic research. This includes determining the impact that research might have had – from online social media buzz to impact on public policy – and what those signals mean for the future or research. As a technologist, she has worked as a software engineer and manager with data at large scale for several companies in fields such as predictive analytics (Amazon) and natural language processing and search (ProQuest). Polly holds an MBA from UBC’s Sauder School of Business and an MSc in Computer Science from University of Victoria. She was a visiting researcher at MIT’s Department or Aeronautics and Astronautics.
