Sarah Speevak

Legal Counsel, Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

Sarah Speevak obtained a B.A. (Hons) in Criminology and Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Law and a minor in Mass Communications, from Carleton University in 2004. She obtained her LL.B. in English Common Law from the University of Ottawa in 2007. Sarah was called to the Law Society of Ontario in 2008.

She has worked as legal counsel for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada since 2011. In this capacity she has been able to work on a range of interesting privacy-related issues, such as national security, public safety and lawful access, reputation management, consent, enforcement and Privacy Act reform; as well as important privacy cases, such as the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in R v. Spencer, 2014 SCC 43 and the Federal Court’s decision in Globe24h.com, 2017 FC 114.
