Dr. Anita Charters – VIPSS26

Anita Charters is the Senior Advisor, Interdisciplinary Research and Programs at Genome British Columbia, a non-profit organization that invests in and supports genomics research and innovation to address regional challenges. With a passion for responsible innovation, Anita is dedicated to bringing a social science lens to both the research and implementation stages of genomics. This approach ensures the development and use of genomics is both responsible and equitable.

Anita has been in the genomics ecosystem for over two decades. Her background includes integrating several genomic assays into the clinic at the Provincial Health Services Authority, as well as roles as Computational Biologist and Project Manager at Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Simon Fraser University, where she investigated sociotechnical imaginaries that shape precision medicine.
