Marilyn Sing

Principal, IPP Consulting

Prior to being certified in 2016 as an information privacy professional by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), Marilyn worked for private companies, non-profits and regional government in management roles that included marketing, communications, business development, risk management and operations. She also developed curriculum and taught business courses at Langara College, Camosun College and Royal Roads University.

Knowing that many small and medium-sized businesses lacked access to privacy professionals and were unaware that they were required to comply with privacy laws, Marilyn started IPP Consulting to focus on supporting these smaller companies. Most of her business involves working with clients to help them develop, implement and maintain their privacy management programs. This work led her to create a series of online courses with guidance, tools and templates to help Canadian privacy officers develop their own privacy management program.

To increase awareness of privacy law and compliance benefits, Marilyn has delivered informative and practical workshops through Small Business BC, the Better Business Bureau of Vancouver Island, an insurance company and a Managed IT Services Provider.

Since 2021, she has chaired the IAPP Victoria KnowledgeNet Chapter, which brings the local privacy community together for educational meetings to earn continuing privacy education credits and for networking activities.
