Health Innovation Executive

Tim Murphy is a senior healthcare executive driven by a singular purpose: to make a positive difference in the health of families, friends, and communities.

With over 30 years of leadership experience, Tim has spearheaded initiatives that modernize healthcare systems, improve outcomes, and foster innovation. As Vice President of Health at Alberta Innovates, he advanced the adoption of data, technology, and patient-centered approaches, working closely with health tech companies and system stakeholders to create the conditions for innovation to thrive.

His earlier work includes leading the Movember Foundation’s expansion into mental health as a Second Cause Beneficiary in Canada and establishing the National Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Network, both of which continue to impact lives today. Tim also helped lead Alberta’s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research, embedding patient and community voices into health research priorities.

Prior to Alberta Innovates, Tim served in senior leadership roles at the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, Princess Margaret Hospital, and the BC Cancer Agency. He also built a successful independent consulting practice supporting health research and innovation initiatives nationally.

Tim holds a Master of Health Administration (University of Toronto), a Master of Business Administration (Queen’s University), and is a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA). In 2023, he was recognized as Digital Health Canada’s Digital Health Executive of the Year.
