Steve Hutchens has more than 35 years of experience in the leadership, strategy, business development and application of information technology to solve business and mission problems for government, industry, and healthcare organizations. Steve’s areas of information technology experience includes: management, data centre development, application software development, information technology and communication systems engineering, project management, quality assurance, information security, and extensive experience in information technology education. He has developed organizations for information systems support and consulting services consisting of over 100 staff members with full unit profit and loss responsibility.Currently, Steve is the director, U.S. Public Sector region, for Global Government Industry with HP. He also serves as the global industry leader for HP’s homeland security and intelligence market. He serves as a subject matter expert in the area of information security, information operations, emergency services, law enforcement, and the application of information technology to support homeland security / national security for government clients.Steve delivers presentations at numerous conferences annually including the Gartner conference and works closely with industry analysts to maintain current information on trends and issues in the industry. He supports the U.S. Public Sector client executives for strategy, innovation, and business development activities to address the growing U.S. Public Sector markets.Prior to HP Steve worked in senior leadership roles at Unisys Corporation and Litton TASC where his responsibilities included the full-spectrum of information security services to include architecture, product selection, certification and accreditation, security policy, network monitoring, incident response and security training and awareness. From 1990-1997 Steve served as chief information officer for all decisions relating to information technology in this multi-facility healthcare organization and had profit and loss (P&L) responsibility for a multi-million dollar budget that supported all information technology projects and operations. He was responsible for the development of the Loudoun Healthcare Institute for Educational Development to enhance staff knowledge in a number of clinical, financial, and operational subjects. He coordinated programming and system development activities with numerous outside contractors.From 1982-1990 Steve was responsible for the total hospital information systems to automate laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, admitting, finance, and medical records. He also uniquely developed and implemented a marketing department that sold and supported physician office management systems. This activity became a profit centre for the hospital and a source of support to local physician offices of the hospital. This business operation has continued since its creation in 1989.Steve has authored numerous articles on information systems, technology strategy, and has more than 20 years of experience as adjunct faculty for numerous universities and colleges teaching computer technology, information security, and business courses.
