Sharon Plater is the Senior Director of Corporate Privacy Services in the Legislation, Privacy and Policy Branch, Ministry of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services. Sharon has been involved with access and privacy in British Columbia (BC) since 1993 when the public sector legislation was implemented and has addressed privacy and access issues from the perspective of a ministry, the central agency responsible for privacy legislation in BC and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner. She was one of the key architects of BC’s Personal Information Protection Act. Sharon has a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology and has met all the requirements for her Doctorate in this field, except for completion of her dissertation. She has 25 years experience as a counsellor, educator, author, policy analyst and program designer. Publication: Two Routes to Privacy Protection: A Comparison of Health Information Legislation in Canada and the United States, was published in the Journal of Women’s Health.
