Executive Strategist for Policy Innovation, The Information Accountability Foundation
Peter provides strategic leadership to organizations, helping them leverage big data information use to achieve business value and differentiation, as well as advance their reputation and image. He is a globally minded executive leader, experienced in financial services and technology sectors and an internationally recognized professional in development of information public policy frameworks and organization governance, risk and compliance systems. He brings over two decades of expertise in corporate governance, privacy and risk management as well as extensive background in building sound organizational practices. He works with global executives, policy makers, regulators and academics to advance policy agendas and is a frequent speaker at US and International events. He has written extensively on workable policy frameworks and information governance accountability.
He is currently the CEO of Global Information Governance Solutions, a boutique consulting firm providing strategic advisory services to organizations. Current relationships include PwC where he serves as a Privacy Innovation Strategist helping a broader set of clients understand the future of new information use risks and the risk solutions they will need. Other clients include MasterCard.
He is also the Executive Strategist for Policy Innovation at The Information Accountability Foundation. He leads the Foundation’s project on the Holistic Governance Policy Model, which examines public policy/governance mechanisms to achieve more effective data use and protection.
Prior roles include GM Trustworthy Computing and Chief Privacy Strategist at Microsoft Corp., where he led the development and implementation of programs that bolstered the trustworthiness of Microsoft® products, services, processes and systems worldwide. He was successful in changing the company’s privacy reputation externally and helped drive competitive differentiation strategies.
Before joining Microsoft, Peter served as the corporate privacy officer for the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), a first for a Canadian financial institution where he developed and influenced initiatives relevant to the RBC Financial Group’s strategic approach to privacy.
He is a Founder of the Foundation for Information Accountability & Governance, a nonprofit business alliance chartered to advance information policy conducive to a 21st-century data world. He is also a Founding member and Vice Chairman, Board of Directors, The Privacy Projects a non-profit foundation investing in rational and effective information governance and a founding member, Board of Advisors, Center for Law, Ethics, and Applied Research in Health Information a research group affiliated with Indiana University advancing health information policy.
In 2003, Peter was honoured with the International Association of Privacy Professionals’ (IAPP) Vanguard Award for Privacy Innovation for his contributions to the privacy profession.
Peter holds an MBA with distinction from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He is married with two adult children. In his personal time, Peter enjoys his passion for the culinary arts and golfing.
