Jay Loder – VIPSS23

Privacy Officer, FortisBC

Jay is the Privacy Officer at FortisBC, a British Columbia Canada based company that delivers renewable energy, natural gas, and electricity to 1.2 million customers in 135 BC communities, and 57 Indigenous communities. Prior to joining FortisBC, Jay was the principal at Rouleur Privacy Consulting, a Canadian based firm that provided privacy and information security advice to organizations in both public and private sectors. As well, Jay also has extensive experience in leading privacy programs in higher education and insurance industries.

Jay is a certified privacy professional (CIPP/C, CIPM, FIP designations) who has spoken at numerous privacy conferences and written on the topic. He is a member of the IAPP Education Advisory Board and past member of their Canadian Advisory Board, as well as a member of their training faculty. Additionally, Jay has co-chaired the Canadian Privacy Symposium (Toronto) several times and provided subject matter guidance to the development of the IAPP ‘s Canadian privacy training program. Locally he is a past chair of the British Columbia Privacy Professionals Network, a privacy and data security networking group.
