Imraan Bashir

Executive Director, Cyber Security, Treasury Board Secretariat

Imraan Bashir is the Executive Director of Cyber Security within the Office of the Chief Information Officer at Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS), where he is responsible for internal government-wide cyber security strategy and oversight functions. This includes the establishment of standards and provision of direction to 100+ organizations in order to establish a consistent enterprise-wide security posture and enable the secure delivery of services to Canadians. In this role, Imraan also leads the government’s Digital Identity program, implementing a pan-Canadian approach to allow trusted access to online services.

Imraan is a vocal member of the Government of Canada’s security community, advocating for practitioners to take a more balanced risk-based approach to security, with focus on enabling business outcomes. Imraan is a staunch believer of #pragmaticsecurity, and can be found often ranting about this on Twitter.

Imraan has spent his entire career in the IT/cyber security domain, spending time in both private and public sectors. In 2019, Apolitical named Imraan one of the world’s top 100 most influential people in digital government.
