Emily McCarthy

Assistant Information Commissioner of Canada

Emily McCarthy was appointed Assistant Information Commissioner in October 2012, having been Acting Assistant Information Commissioner since August 2011. She is also General Counsel and Director of Legal Services at the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada. Emily brings to her role at the Information Commissioner’s Office eight years of experience with the Federal Court, where she held the positions of Executive Officer in the Office of the Chief Justice, Senior Counsel, and Acting Deputy Chief Administrator, Judicial Services. From 1999 to 2003 Emily was Counsel at the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada. She clerked for the Honourable Allan Lutfy of the Federal Court of Canada from 1998 to 1999. Emily received her Bachelor of Civil and Common Laws from McGill University in 1998 and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
