Dr. Oksana Suchowersky
Professor of Medicine and Medical Genetics, University of Alberta; Co-Lead, Precision Health Alberta
Dr. Suchowersky is Professor of Medicine (Neurology), Medical Genetics, and Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta She holds the Toupin Research Chair at the University of Alberta, and is the Clinical Director of Medical Genetics, Alberta Health Services (Edmonton Zone). She has recently taken on the role as Co-Chair of the Precision Health Alberta initiative.
Dr. Suchowersky received her MD from University of Calgary. Following residency in Neurology and fellowship in Neurogenetics at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Suchowersky was recruited to the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine in 1984 as Director of the Movement Disorders Program. From 2005-2010, she was the Head of the Department of Medical Genetics. In 2010, she was recruited to the University of Alberta to expand the Movement Disorders and Neurogenetics Programs.
Her research interests include understanding genetic factors related to the development of neurodegenerative disorders, and developing new treatments for these disorders. She has published over 250 peer reviewed publications, and edited 2 books. She is on the Editorial Board of Nature Clinical Neurology.
