Retired business leader, company advisor and Board member Doug Buchanan was CEO of BC Biomedical Laboratories Ltd for more than twenty years where he led the introduction of strategic improvements in leadership practices, several significant acquisitions, and the development of a leading-edge laboratory. During his tenure the company was consistently ranked among the ’50 Best Employers in Canada’ (1st for three years in a row). Other stops along Mr. Buchanan’s career journey have included Sandwell Engineering where he ran the organization’s global consulting practice and The WATCOM Group, a software development spin-off from the University of Waterloo where Doug headed all marketing and sales activities. As a Partner at Price Waterhouse Management Consultants for a major portion of his working life, he supported clients worldwide in strategic management, business competitiveness, market research and project feasibility assessment. Doug is educated in the sciences and business (B.Sc. Hon Physics, M.Sc. Biology, MBA), is an ICD.D (certified Director by the Institute of Corporate Directors) and has a broad range of Board experience from small startups to large publicly-traded companies.
